About

My love for art goes back to elementary school, but one of the reasons I didn't get the chance to study it was that our family travelled and moved around so frequently. We moved back and forth to Sweden many times as I was growing up. My late mother was born and raised there.

Through lifes twist and turns I ended up working as an apprentice at Ye Olde Flower Barn, just after my husband and I were married. Two years later I went to work for Shirley Marley, in Birmingham, Mi.

Marley's at the Townsend Hotel was an unusual place. Marley really taught me to think outside the box in floral design. There was a boutique in the hotel that felt like stepping into a fairytale.

When I came on board in 1995, she had just opened a 5,000 sq ft. shop across the street from the hotel. I helped her decorate the shop with garlands of hops, big poufs of rich red velvet cabbage roses, curly willow & moss. Marley was a small gypsy type lady who wore her hair upswept in a bun. She sold Staley Gretzinger clothing from NY and these incredible sweater dresses by a local artist would run $1000. Another local artist made these amazing animals from paper mache and we were a rising star store for Christopher Radko ornaments! We designed flowers for numerous weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs and celebrities that stayed at the Townsend. Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney & his wife, Steven Tyler, Barbara Streisand, Diane Sawyer, golfer Annika Sorenstam & Jerry Lewis are a few that I personally designed flowers for.

I really wanted to stay home with my kids, so I kept up the floral work out of my studio at home. 6 years ago I started my paper goods shop here on etsy, papertreats.etsy.com. In 2008, I was invited to appear on the Martha Stewart show to demonstrate how to make my christmas tags.

After designing with flowers for the last 20 years, I was encouraged by friends to get a floral store opened here too!
