I’ve long been fascinated with the mementos and memorials that we, as a culture and as individuals, create. Since childhood, I’ve loved exploring antique markets and second hand stores, losing hours in museums, rummaging through cigar boxes at estate sales, and finding notes and photos tucked in between the pages of old books. Dust is in my blood, it seems. I can even remember visiting cemeteries with my mom to admire the carvings and to make gravestone rubbings.

While my handcrafted work is not antique, I try to evoke the feeling of the genuine objects with my reimagined relics. Not infrequently, I use reprints of antique photos and ephemera from my collection. I’m also always on the search for vintage components and materials that I can salvage for my work. Often, I repurpose bits and scraps from larger vintage and antique items that have been damaged beyond repair or recycle mundane objects as art supplies.
