Ideas take shape and are brought to life within the ceramic artist's hands in a very special way. Clay is a most incredible, versatile and forgiving medium. It lends itself as much to discipline as to abandon. (And that's a good thing... because a person deserves to be very focused one day and totally spontaneous the next!)
A fascination with nature's voluptuous forms can be given freedom of expression in clay. Tiles can become three-dimensional canvases, where sculptural, woodcutting and painterly techniques are often combined on a single surface. Graceful elements can emerge unexpectedly to adorn the inner secret space of bowls. Quirky and surprising elements may wind up crossing the surface of a plate. And jewelry pieces and “small objects” may provide a glimpse in miniature of the same nature-inspired visions.
