Hi. Thanks for shopping my etsy store.

My name is Susie. I’m an artist and designer with a background in architecture and engineering. I practice lighting design with a great little firm called LightWire and I spend my hobby time creating art work ranging from garden art to quilts and plush toys. I’ve had some great fun with mosaics as well.

I live in West Seattle with my husband and two children. I’ve always had creative hobbies, but having children has awakened my inner child. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to see the world through my children’s eyes, and it made me notice that I was missing something. Something deep inside myself that my earlier life had quieted. That little creative me that was choked by a public school education and parents who always told me to be practical, learn how to make a living, don’t waste your time with those art classes…..

I take inspiration from my garden and the natural places around Seattle. I love plants and all of the wonderful color combinations found in nature. As a result, much of my artwork incorporates natural themes and patterns. I enjoy playing with color combinations and balancing disparate pieces into a cohesive whole.

I am a self taught quilter. I never do traditional patterns. I have so much fun making my own designs that I can’t imagine following a pattern. Every quilt is different. Every quilt evolves as I work with it. I start out with a color combination or a theme in mind. I make a machine pieced face and then use embroidery to add texture and detail on a fine scale. Finishing is always done with a warm comfy flannel back and sturdy edge binding to ensure a long durable life.

My pocket monsters were born of a cold rainy Seattle winter when my son and I were drawing little characters to stave off the boredom. After drawing, I decided to try to make my favorite character into a toy. My son loved the toy so much that I made more. I gave several pocket monsters as Christmas gifts that year. I enjoyed the smiles that I got from those children so much that I have continued to make the funny little monsters that you can see in my shop today. Each monster is made with a pocket to hold special treasures.
