I'm an avid gardener, fermenter, composter, dirt-digger, permaculture designer, re-wilder, and general all-around DIYer.

With limited access to fertile land, I grow what I'm able using the ethics, principles, and elements of urban permaculture. My focus is on building soil and community, acquainting myself with perennial wild edibles, and heralding the tiny and humble seed.

Our seed is carefully selected from reputable seed companies or saved by ourselves and hand packaged. Because we cater to our local market, we provide heirloom, organic, and bioregionally sourced garden and sprout seeds not readily available in our locale.

We strive to provide heirloom seeds that are unique and well suited to the challenging environment of the Gulf Coast, though can be grown in most temperate climates. Our sprout seeds are hand mixed and have been successfully grown by us and sold at the local farmers markets to our many sprout fans over the last five years.

All garden seed is open pollinated. We do not purchase or personally use GMO seed. Some varieties are labeled as heirloom: loosely defined as open pollinated, saved from generation to generation, and pre-dating the 1950's. We now offer many organic seeds and hope to expand our offering over time. All seed for growing sprouts is organic and non-GMO, unless otherwise noted, and for humans (non-agricultural). All locally harvested seed is noted as such.

We believe that tasty and healthy food should be accessible to everyone and that all beings have intrinsic value. We are committed to socially and therefore environmentally responsible practices, both in our home and out. We use no “cides”. We grow only organic sprout seeds and heirloom garden varieties. We value water and energy and are mindful of our use. We reduce our waste stream by consuming less, composting, and reusing. We value community and devote time to efforts that we feel strengthen our local community. We view non-monetary household reliance as a valid way of life, worth striving for, and defending. We are only human and work every day toward aligning our lives and livelihoods with our values.

Oh, and if you're curious about the "design" part of "seeds, sprouts, and design," visit www.cfhdesignstudio.com to learn more about my other life as an architectural designer.

One more thing, the "we" and "our" who I refer to is my husband and myself. He doesn't know a lick about growing food, but he operates a mean shovel and makes my shop look good. If you want to see more of his photos visit www.ericmarcusstudio.com
