Cheryl Burns' Profile

About

Welcome to my Etsy shop! Please come in and look around!

My name is Cheryl Burns, and I live in Abington, Massachusetts, a small suburb south of Boston. I was born and raised in the Boston area, and I can't imagine living anywhere else.

From a young age, I have always been interested in creating things, My aunt taught me to do cross stitch when I was 9 years old, and I still have that sampler. A few years later, she gave me her old sewing machine but I dint know what to do with it.
I took sewing in Junior High School. I made my own Winter coat when I was 15, while my new boyfriend watched me cutting out all the pieces before our date!
I guess he didn't mind, we've been married for 37 years!

I have an Associates Degree in Advertising Art and Design and was a graphic artist at a small town newspaper. I…

I have an Associates Degree in Advertising Art and Design and was a graphic artist at a small town newspaper. I learned so much about typography and design that has stayed with me, even to this day.

As the years went on, I was a stay-at-home Mom but managed to find a way to make money with my creativity. For several years, I designed and created large decorative flags. They were very popular in my area, and I could advertise the newest one by hanging it outside.

I took a decorative painting class in 1989, and loved it. I learned a lot about technique and design. By 1996, I was teaching my own classes there and in my home. I taught for 15 years, making so many friends. I still paint' and put my items in a annual painting show with a lot of my former students and teachers.

I started this Etsy shop in 2011 to continue selling my fabric badge reels. My daughter inspired me to make a few for her, and her nursing friends. She came home from work the same day with orders for more. As the orders kept coming, I knew I wanted to start a small business selling online, and My Busy Buttons was born.

I am blessed to have two grown children, a brand new grandson (our first!), and a husband who's patience has allowed me to continue with my crafty life.
