"Painting is an expression of the soul, a meditation, as are my several times weekly strolls along the beach and rocky shore lines." La Vallee, who is a studio artist, makes sketches and photographs the landscape and uses several of these studies for each painting she creates. Adrienne La Vallee a native New Englander who, in 2011, moved from the Berkshires of Massachusetts to the beautiful coast of southern Maine. "I am living my dream", says the award winning painter who prefers living in a rural setting, painting the local landscape, her gardens, and the sea.

"Painting is an expression of the soul, a meditation, as are my several times weekly strolls along the beach and rocky shore lines." La Vallee, who is a studio artist, makes sketches and photographs the landscape and uses several of these studies for each painting she creates. She describes her art as "creative realities" in which color, lighting, and the sense of place are suggested and expressed rather than reproduced".

After earning a Bachlor's degree in Fine Arts (BFA) from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, she spent two years in Baltimore, Maryland, and was graduated with a Master's of Fine Arts degree (MFA) from the Maryland Institute College of Art, one of the top ranked studio art college.

Upon leaving Maryland, La Vallee moved to southern New Hampshire and began exhibiting her work extensively throughout New England. She has twice been the recipient of the prestigious " Individual Artist Fellowship" granted by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts . Her art has been selected for numerous juried exhibitions, and she has been a guest artist and lecturer throughout New England including for Connecticut College, Clark University, and Keene State College. Her paintings and mixed media works have been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and her art is in collections, worldwide.

Saint Anselm College in Manchester NH was "home" to "Prof. La Vallee" for over two decades. There she taught oil painting, watercolor, drawing, design, printmaking and art history while maintaining an active studio.

For many years, La Vallee painted abstract and symbolic images . However, a five weeks residency at a Wilson, Wyoming, artists' community was the pivotal point in her career, the time she began her explorations of the landscape. "The Western landscape is so grand, so dramatic~~ I had to respond. The Maine coast provides a grandeur of it's own, woodlands, fields, and gentle mountains of New England grant me peace."

"SEARCHING my heart for its true sorrow,
This is the thing I find to be:
That I am weary of words and people,
Sick of the city, wanting the sea;
Wanting the sticky, salty sweetness
Of the strong wind and shattered spray,
Wanting the loud sound and the soft sound
Of the big surf that breaks all day...."

Edna St. Vincent Millay excerpt from Exiled
