Nicola Brett's Profile
One of my favourite materials to work with is fleece, from which I spin yarn or make felt.
My felt pieces are usually rustic and earthy, usually influenced by natural forms like pebbles, rock and gnarled ancient trees. I use un-dyed fleece in shades of grey, cream, fawn and brown, and often use matted locks of wool, bone, antler, leather, shell and stone adornments. I like things to look like they have come from the earth, a bit caveman or primitive.
I try to use fleece from my local area, and if I am lucky to get hold of a really textured or curly fleece, then I am in wooly heaven.
The yarn I spin is usually OOAK, very soft and textured, mostly hand dyed. Again nature influences me, flower borders, mossy woodlands and hazy heathlands often give me ideas for a colour scheme…
