THE PERSON:
Baby boomer, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (did I really admit that?). Aging hippie chick, art school graduate, children's book illustration, painter, freelance graphic artist, professional genealogist, Reiki II Practitioner, eco-warrior, and now, organic product handcrafter.

THE SHOP - WHO WE ARE:
The year was 1970, the month was April. Being a young bona fide hippie, I was open to new ideas and lifestyles as were many of my generation. By chance, I heard about some sort of event that was taking place in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, they called it "Earth Day". So I went and the rest is history. That day would forever change my life and lifestyle.

While the information provided on that day pointed out all that was wrong with the planet and our environment due to our carelessness and lack of stewardship, it gave little in the way of what the common everyday person could do to fix the problem. I went home alarmed, frustrated and feeling helpless. After thinking about it for awhile and not understanding how I could stop big chemical companies from polluting the air and waters, I decided, if nothing else, that I would make my own little universe pure and natural and I would not further contribute to the problem. My first stop was under my kitchen sink to peruse the unpronounceable chemicals lurking in my household cleaning products. Next stop was the bathroom toiletries and medicine cabinet, followed by the basement where all the paints and solvents were stored. What WAS at that stuff listed on the labels? Taking baby steps I slowly but surely stopped buying and using toxic cleaners, toiletries, over the counter medicines and maintenance products. Circa 1996, new to the Internet, I created my "Clean and Green" and "Kitchen Cosmetics" websites, in an effort to share all I had learned since 1970. Shortly after that, I have received phone calls from TV news stations and magazines asking for interviews or to reprint my web information. Family and friends said I should write a book and others said I should make and sell my natural recipes...and so it is and here I am!

INGREDIENTS:
Earthwise Naturals is committed to using only 100% organic natural oils, powders, minerals, herbs, extracts and essential oils in our products. ONLY 100% Essential Oils and herbs and spices have been used for scent, never laboratory made allergenic chemical "fragrances". Needless to say, no chemical preservatives will be found here either, if it can't be made without adding a preservative, we don't make it! We know that sustainable harvesting and Fair Trade practices are just as important to you are they are to us and we keep a watchful eye when buying our supplies to ensure adherence to those environmental and social standards. Under certain circumstances, a natural, sustainably wild harvested, pesticide-free ingredient may be temporarily substituted until an organic variety can be obtained. The only reason for any non-organic substitution would be due to adverse weather conditions that may have affected the crop yeilds or lack of availability of some organically grown ingredients.

PACKAGING:
Earthwise Naturals products are always packaged in sustainable and/or recycled materials. In some instances, such as bath salts, we have used repurposed sterilized vintage bottles and jars from worthy charitable institutions such as Thrift for Aids, The Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries and The Saint Vincent De Paul Society. In other cases, decorative new containers made of natural materials such as glass, wood, metal, cotton, paper and cardboard have been used with the intent that they be enjoyed and reused by the consumer for years to come. Only when no other viable options are available for the particular product do we consider use of any plastic packaging. In those instances, we ask that you please find a way to reuse the plastic packaging for other uses in your home or recycle them.
