Naomi Rabinowitz's Profile

About

For as long as I can remember, I've loved making crafts. As a child, I'd spend hours in my room, drawing, painting and creating. When Swatch watches were popular, I made cardboard versions of them for all of my friends. They didn't work, of course, but they looked cool! I also made my own version of Garbage Pail Kids (I'm really dating myself here) called "Junkyard Jazz."

Because my parents were both teachers and had summers off, we'd spend the vacation traveling to many different countries, including China, Israel, Egypt and Mexico. I was introduced to crafts from around the world and did my best to replicate things like Japanese mobiles and Chinese paintings.

As I grew older, more of my focus went to music (I play flute and piano), but I still enjoyed painting and making ceramics for fun. I then started making jewelry and that was it. I…

I was hooked! I love the fact that you can wear your creations; sometimes I have so many ideas for pieces in my head that I end up dreaming about them.

Much as I love colorful beads and crystals, my favorite material to work with is wire. My goal is to make as many components in my pieces by myself; working with wire gives me that freedom. There's nothing like holding an ordinary piece of wire in your hand and coming up with a design; then with a few twists and turns, you have a beautiful creation.

I'm a big fan of modern art, especially artists like Picasso, Mondrian and Kandinsky, so many of my pieces are somewhat influenced by their works. I really like clean lines and geometric shapes.

I'm always experimenting and learning new techniques when it comes to making jewelry. Keep checking in to take a peek at my latest creations!
