Joanne Boyle's Profile

About

Joanne Boyle is originally from Southeastern Pennsylvania where she experienced small towns, big cities, wilderness and farms. She now travels the country in search of new material and inspiration. Along with her faithful golden retriever, Angie, she explores fern-choked forests, rocky creeks, scree-filled mountain slopes and win-blasted deserts in search of unique material for her art.

As with many artists, Joanne's work has been heavily influenced by her childhood. Her grandmother filled her imagination with the fanciful folklore of fairies, gnomes, woodland spirits and water sprites. Days were spent in the surrounding woods and creeks searching for stones and the ever-elusive fables. She even built wee houses to entice gnomes into the open.

Her grandmother's art studio provided creative outlets when nature wasn't beckoning. Joanne worked in many mediums including clay, leather, glass, acrylics, sketching and flowers. Her artistic education continued in high school shop class where she learned to work with wood and metal while interpreting mechanical drawings. Weaving complex sweaters on a loom added to her skill set. She is now combining wire and stone into exquisite wearable art.

Inspired by the vines that climb into the forest canopy seeking sunlight, her graceful wraps highlight carefully shaped stones cut to emphasize color, pattern and form. The stones vary from the subtle shades of amethyst sage to the bold hue of red jasper and the electric blue of chrysocolla. Joanne specializes in varieties of shimmering moonstone - a favorite of gnomes. Each piece of jewelry is accentuated in silver or gold designs that vary from simple and clean to whimsical and organic.

Winner of the Stone Age Industries Shop Friends of the Month November and December 2010, March 2012 and the February 2012 RTH Cab and Wrap Team Competition.
