Chad and Meghan Nelson's Profile

About

Hi! We are Chad and Meghan, a married pair of opposites with a definite affinity for the fun and quirky. As you'll discover from our shop, we have a rather distinctive sense of humor that is embodied by our line of pottery known as Ug-Chugs. We love for people to enjoy and use our artwork...in fact, if we can add a laugh or a cheerful moment to someone's day, then we feel pretty good about that.

Ug-Chugs are our modern, funny, and often ironic take on traditional face jugs. While they are lighthearted and not too serious, we put quite a bit of time into each one's creation. Here's how our process works.

1. Chad preps his clay (all of our pieces are made from stoneware) and throws each and every piece on the pottery wheel - absolutely no molds!

2. We then make every eye, tooth, lip, handle, and other features by hand and attach them to each piece.

3. Next comes trimming and stamping - every item is hand-stamped with the Ug-Chug logo, Chad's signature, and the year.

4. Time for a bisque-firing!

5. Each piece is then waxed and glazed by hand, down to every pupil and tooth.

6. We then load them into the kiln for a glaze firing. We high-fire to cone 10 for a durable, lasting, and MICROWAVE and DISHWASHER safe product.

7. Now they are ready for Etsy! Each piece gets his or her very own personality description and name, which is included in the packaging and largely depends on just how goofy we are feeling.

Whew! So, as you can see, a lot of thought, effort, fun, and love goes into your Ug-Chug, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece!

We hope you enjoy browsing our shop. As we say at the studio...

"Enjoy art. Enjoy creation. Enjoy life!"
