Amanda's Profile

About

Amanda and Kevin are a pair of twenty somethings living together in northern Ohio with their two gerbils, Crushinator and Killbot.

Both are knitters but Amanda is the yarn and fiber addict expanding to include macrame, latchhook, and crochet and others. She is proud to have been working with yarn for more than a decade but mildly annoyed at having to admit to being that old ;)

Both enjoy paper crafts such as origami and cubeecraft.

Both enjoy scribbling a fair bit, but Kevin more so with a semi-regular webcomic. Updating every other day and more often during story lines.

Amanda and Kevin both enjoy cross-stitching, Chinese food, Pixar films, human powered transportation (walking, biking, and push scooters) and quite a few famous nerds like Alton Brown, Bill Nye, They Might Be Giants and more!

But most of all, both enjoy doing being creative and spending time together. (And eating frozen custard. mmmmm)

We have a twitter stream and we are quite active there! We like to tweet about abstract ideas, what we're doing, and plot holes in pop culture. We also like to re-tweet things that make us laugh or that catch our interest.

Why not follow our neglected blog? Updates don't happen often, but when they do you know they're going to be good. Look for tutorials in all the random crafts we enjoy. Look for tips on making your carbon footprint smaller. Look for links to other things that might make you think and laugh. Look for Waldo, but you won't find him; he blends in with the crowd. Who knew red and white stripes were so camouflaging?

*F*A*Q*S*
Here are some questions you might have, and if you have others, please send me a convo and I'll do my best to answer them.

--Why do you only use acrylic yarn?
It's not a rule. I just have a favorite yarn and acrylic is it. I find it easy to work with, easy to clean and care for, comfortably soft, available in a wide range of colors and yet inexpensive. I have recently added some new listings with other fibers. If you love my designs but would prefer cotton or wool or some other fiber, please feel free to contact me and I will search for a fiber that suits you.

--Why are your prices so varied when the items are so similar?
Despite the apparent similarity, there are quite extreme differences. I use a formula to price my yarn creations which takes into account both time and materials. Designs with lots of rings take more time and often more material than continuous designs that might look more complicated and vice versa. I am dedicated to giving a fair price to my patrons as well as pay myself a fair wage.

--How do you take your photos?
I'm am no professional, that's for sure, and I'm still learning. My methods are very simple and include a very inexpensive point and click camera, a dry erase board, and a window. If you'd like tips, I'm not sure I'm the best to ask, but I'd be happy to try and help you if you send me a convo with some specific questions.

--Do you wholesale?
Yes. But not for all my items. Swatch cards I do for the pleasure of it and are far too complicated to create in large quantities. All my knitted rope jewelry is priced at the retail level and can be wholesaled. Please send a convo for pricing. If you are not a retailer, and would just like a bulk rate, please send a convo. I can still offer a discount on larger orders.

--How do you make your knitted rope seamless?
Ah, well there you've got me. I can't give away all my secrets, but I will tell you that it took some practice and some trial and error before I perfected the technique and could rely on the same results every time.

--Are you trade friendly?
Yes! But I've got to love what you have to offer too. Please don't be offended if I decline. I'll always at least take the time to peruse your shop.
