About

As a little girl, I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. During those times, my mother, her mother, and I would spend countless hours cooking. "Someday, Noni," they would tell me, "we will no longer be here, but these recipes will keep our family traditions alive."

My grandmother would tell me sweet stories about her youth and teach me about the importance of harvesting from the land and filling each jelly jar with love. "Waste nothing that God gives you and share that love, and that enjoyment, with those that will taste what you create."

My mother would teach me that I should "hold close to the heart the love that we give you in our teaching, for none of us will forget the times that we've shared in this kitchen."

Both my grandmother and mother have since passed, and I often miss them terribly. But in the kitchen, as I follow their teaching, I truly feel that they are with me.

To that end, I know that they are proud of me; and for that, I am very thankful.
