Ursula Brown's Profile

About

We are a mother(Ursula)/daughter(Holly) team.

Ursula is a master seamstress who started sewing, as an apprentice, in her native Germany at the age of 14, in 1961. At 17 years old she passed her final test with flying colors. She had to sew a white wedding gown with black thread and none of the thread could be visible on the outside of the garment. She moved to the USA shortly after that and at the age of 19 she quickly proved her seamstress skills and became the manager of a very large seamstress department in a very large bridal store in South Jersey. Ursula has been sewing non-stop for almost 50 years

Holly...well, she can't even sew on a button. Be grateful that Holly doesn't make your headwear. Holly decided that her mom(Ursula) needed to get her headwear on the internet and built a website for her. While Ursula is a master seamstress, she is also technically challenged so Holly decided to maintain the website and take care of all customer service for the new site.

What a perfect combination!

Nurse Headwear & More began 10 years ago at a motorcycle rally and our original name was a play on Ursula's name, Ursheadwear. Before that rally we sold pre-made bandanas only. After receiving so many requests for different patterns, Ursula took one of the bandanas apart to see how it was made and decided that she could do a better job herself...and she did! After traveling for almost five years, Ursula decided to put her feet down(and in the sand) in FL while Holly did all of the site maintenance and customer service from NJ.

Soon after the website was up and running we decided to add surgical caps to our product line. From that point on Ursheadwear really took off and now the majority of our sales are for surgical headwear(especially Banded Bouffants) with chef hats coming in second. Ursula does ALL of the sewing and she has made and perfected her own patterns that she uses for her products.

In 2006 Ursula uprooted Ursheadwear from Florida and moved it back to NJ because her first grandchild(Holly's daughter), Gia, was coming home from Guatemala...soon to be followed by Nino(also adopted from Guatemala)...not to mention her 5 kids that live in NJ:) In March 2009 Ursheadwear became Nurse Headwear & More and there is no stopping us now.
