About

Ocean & J Christian S, have both been artists for 20+ years. We met in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1996, where we were part of an artists’ co-op/gallery. We became fast friends & began creating, curating & showcasing our art together. We reunited here in Toronto a couple of years ago, when Ocean moved into a warehouse space & built "O Gallery”. O Gallery became the center for our continued collaboration where we hosted several multi-media art events installations as well as fashion shows & performance art. You can visit O’ Gallery on Facebook for photos & information on past events.

Hi my name is Christian. I am a Finnish/Canadian artist born here in Toronto. I lived briefly in Finland, as a child, & was raised surrounded by the Finnish language & culture. Finland is a land with a thousand lakes, which has strongly influenced my love for nature.

I started drawing, painting, printmaking, curating & design in high school. The arts were limited there, however, I had an amazing art instructor who inspired & challenged me to reach for the stars. While studying Interior design at Sheridan, I discovered Van Gogh, that’s when I knew I had to get back into painting. I found a school named S.E.E.D., which gave me the opportunity to further build a portfoli for fine art. This led me to be accepted into OCAD, Ontario College of Art & Design.

At OCAD, I really enjoyed life drawing, philosophy & the other students. I did not complete my studies there - Love pulled me to Ottawa. I took classes at the Ottawa School of Art & I was also a model for life drawing classes. Modeling helped me to understand the human body & its proportions better, which I applied to my art.

From there I moved to Montreal - running away from Love. I was not there for long, when my sister invited me to move to Vancouver, so I did. I started modeling again for several different art schools/programs. I became involved with the artists’ co-op where I met so many talented artists including my friend Ocean.

After several years, I returned to Toronto & was amazed at how much it has changed. To this day, I continue to meet new people & am encouraged to evolve & explore as an artist.

Hi my name is Ocean Mussack. I was born in rural Alberta to a Russian/Ukrainian mother & a Scottish/Austrian father. The prairies were rough & lonely, forcing me to use my imagination as a survival mechanism & later as a tool to express my unique perspective.

Feeling suffocated throughout the years, I finally fled the prairies & ended up in Banff (the Rocky mountains), where I received my only formal art instruction at the Banff Centre of Fine Arts.

Armed with a couple of night courses, a dream & a motorcycle I left for the west coast, Vancouver. That is when an accidental breaking of a mirror propelled me into a whole new world, that of Assemblage art.

For the next 10 years this was my fascination & passion. Later, I worked in film & T.V doing props; again reinforcing that my art was limitless.

After years of props & shows, I lost my mother to cancer & my soul to T.V, so I decided to embark on an 800km walking pilgrimage through Spain in search of myself. Little did I know that this journey would lead me to move to Toronto shortly after returning home to the West Coast.

After living in Toronto for less than a year my dream of having my own gallery space not only came true but I renovated & built it into
O Gallery, my biggest Art project to date.

The gallery, its patrons, supporters & friends have been an amazing gift.

O Gallery is now a mobile gallery, changing locations from event to event, yet continuing the tradition of having awesome parties, performers, Art & Fashion Shows.

This May will mark my 3rd year in Toronto. I am grateful to everyone who has inspired & blessed my journey, thank you!
