I am a Midwesterner now living near Washington, DC by way of living and working in Japan and doing textile research in Peru. In Japan I studied ceramics at a Buddhist temple on weekends and while working in Japan I learned about pre-Columbian Peruvian textiles from my Japanese teacher. My three years in Japan expanded my world and its art and culture are my greatest influences.
I love and respect artwork and functional items made by "the people". In Japan, "mingei" is the work of the unknown craftsperson and it is beautiful because of the design, the materials, and the heart of the creator. I studied fiber art and education in university although experience in real life has taught me much more! I work as an arts administrator.
