OneClayBead's Profile

About

I have been a studio potter for 35 years. My claywork emerges from the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains where I live. Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/OneClayBead
I work in stoneware clay fired in oxidation using glazes specifically formulated for safe and enduring functional use. Although much of my work is purchased for display only, my functional pieces have been designed and refined over decades of personal use to be comfortable to hold, practical for serving, and easy to clean. It is my intention that my pottery becomes a treasured part of your daily life, and an heirloom that is passed with wonderful memories through generations.

Until 2009, My work was sold in regional galleries of distinction such as Grovewood Gallery and Gallery of the Mountains (Asheville), Seven Sisters Gallery (Black Mountain, NC) and It's By Nature (Sylva, NC). It…

It is now available exclusively from me online.

All of my glazes are formulated for maximum durability, and these pieces will be as rich and glossy 100 years from now. I offer complimentary gift wrapping if you like, and always enclose a studio card that lets you know it is dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe.
You can find my daughter's work, made in my studio, here:

I make environmentally friendly choices whenever possible, and produce my pottery with sustainability in mind. I fire in a midrange for stoneware, which gives me a nice, strong pot while using less energy than high fire. I plan my kiln loads with pieces that stack nicely in every available space; none wasted! We are also in the process of installing solar panels, and looking into wind as well. Furthermore, I am committed to making pottery that is durable, and designed for generations of function and pleasure.

I work full time in my studio. My husband, Ken, packs and ships after his day job. To assist him, we have hired part time our neighbor and college student, Chris. Chris went to high school with my daughter, Marci. My daughter-in-law, Haley now works as a part time studio assistant. I love having the young people around and feel very happy to provide them with work in a caring environment where their individual talents are appreciated.
