My name is Lauren and I love to sew.

My grandmother and her sisters were wonderful seamstresses, one worked for a bridal shop for 50 years. My mother made dresses for my sister and I for holidays when we were little.

When I was 11 I decided to make myself a pair of coulottes (dating myself here) when my mother wasn't home. Well, I broke the needle, so my mother decided it was tiime to teach me how to sew.

I made alot of my clothes in high school, including my prom gowns. It gave me an opportunity to look different than all the other kids, sometimes good, sometimes not so great…

I made alot of my clothes in high school, including my prom gowns. It gave me an opportunity to look different than all the other kids, sometimes good, sometimes not so great.

I naturally sewed for my kids, learned english smocking and made lots of smocked outfits too. When my daughter was 12 months old I started a business. Over the past 30 years I have had many different incarnations of my business, from making halloween costumes to working for a bridal shop.

For quite a few years I made halloween costumes and sold them at craft shows and home parties, and had customers all over the northeast. As my kids got older and busier, I took a break from shows and only did alterations for a while, but now I am back.

I chose capes since they fit for years rather than a season, and can easily be shared by siblings and friends. I am always open to new ideas and custom requests, so let me know your ideas.

I currently have a dressmaking and alterations business and in 2008 started my etsy shop. I now have 3 etsy shops.

www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com has sewn and quilted housewares, pot holders, table runners and lots more.

www.laurenspdfpatterns.etsy.com sells pdf patterns of some of my designs, including my popular vendor aprons.

Thank you for stopping by and please come back often, I am always coming up with new products and plan to open a new shop in the near future.
