Orna Willis' Profile

About

I have always drawn inspiration from my surroundings. Born in Israel, I have lived in Tel Aviv, the San Francisco Bay Area, Michigan and am now very happy to be living in Philadelphia. My artistic point of view has been molded from the different cultures, climates, sounds and scenes of these places.

I began creating art as a young child. Later I studied art, and went on to focus on painting, ceramics, interior design and photography.

In 1994 I stumbled across needlepoint. I found that with fibers I could blend color and textures, I could paint with a needle.

"Color is my greatest fascination. Design and architecture have always intrigued me and my use of geometric shapes is what I bring from that love." Ornaments / designs by Orna was born, however my work has not stopped at designing needlepoint kits. I developed a love for making jewelry. My work was immediately snatched up by local boutiques, art galleries and stores such as Neiman Marcus. For the past five years I have been studying metalsmithing, focusing on jewelry. "My art education is an ongoing process which gives me much pleasure."

Along all the interesting stops on my artistic path, I have always looked to share my discoveries with others. My comprehensive, detailed instructions along with the best of materials included in my kits make working on one of my designs an aesthetic experience. Attention is paid to every detail. "I believe the crafter should be given a sense of beauty from the second he or she opens their Ornaments package. When enveloped in beauty it is all the more inspirational to create beauty".
