Welcome to my shop. My name is Phylis U’Ren and I’ve been doing this for a very long time. Without access to large studio space or a lot of resources I was forced to perfect small sculpture. Hanging them from the ceiling solved the problem of storage. Ever inventive and determined to have fun, but saddled with a perfectionist nature, I eventually created my own form of paper maché.
I worked in computer graphics for decades but I’ve always 'played' in the 3rd dimension. I prefer sculpture because it allows me to hold onto my work and view it from all angles. My mobile subjects are 3 dimensional because they make the best use of space and don’t disappear into 2 dimensions when moving. My mobiles are light-hearted and lyrical but not abstract – because I like the inherent attitude and relationships that become possible in floating recognizable objects and postures.
My shakers are a fun way to join the music and groove to the beat – even in a crowd. They are great at outdoor music festivals or enjoy them at your local pub that plays live music. Still using my paper maché technique and unique embossing style – but the addition of 'fill' gives weight and sound to my pieces. They feel and sound great!
My larger sculptural pieces are also filled, giving them weight and the option of multiple balance positions.
