About

Well hello!

Thank you for coming to my shop. I love creating beautiful dainty things that will adorn and maybe even inspire you. My jewelry making stems from my yoga practice, and is a both a meditation and slight obsession. I work mainly with fine silvers (Hill Tribe) and natural gemstones, with the occasional odd pieces thrown in for good measure. Labradorite is probably my most beloved material.

I source my materials from countless places all over the world, and will often only have one or two of a certain item. OOAK work is more labor intensive (each piece is individually shot and posted), but it's more fun this way - I am not a fan of production work.

My signature pieces are my modern malas. These light necklaces are a twist on the traditional 108 bead counting necklace, and have 108 lightly fragrant sandalwood beads with a cluster of gemstones and sometimes a silver or gold charm that serves as the guru focal point.

The name of my shop (Padmala) is a combination of padma, the Sanskrit word for lotus, and mala, the traditional 108 bead counting necklace. Lotus is one of my favorite symbols, since it signifies rebirth, renewal, beauty and spiritual awakening. The lotus reminds us that no matter how many times we stumble or fall, the light is always there for us. Born of the mud, the lotus finds beauty and perfection in the light of the sun.

My other work is as a contract web content copywriter. Balancing writing and jewelry making has been interesting and quite wonderful.

I am a mom to a beautiful little girl, writer, visual artist and imperfect yogini trying to find my path through the world with grace and balance.
Peace,
Katy
