About

My most favorite place is in my kitchen. I love the rare morning I get to enjoy alone while the kids are still asleep-- the sun peeking though the kitchen window, the blue hue of the morning sky, and just me, sitting at our huge family table with a cup of coffee.

From meals to homework to art projects to friends stopping by to visit, the kitchen is where much happens. My Etsy shop reflects a lot of what I love-- soft cottony linens, fresh squeezed lemons, colorful flowers on the window sill-- the little things that bring a warm and fuzzy feeling and makes me smile. I'm also a nut when it comes to all things natural and what we put in and on our body-- there's so much toxic chemicals out there that I believe every little bit to counteract it counts.

It started long ago when I was a little girl-- way before earning my art degree, way before the vast amazingness of ecommerce. When I was little, I painted rocks and sold them for a nickel or a dime outside our grocery store. My mom was ahead of her time and painted on tote bags and scarves, and I helped her sell them at craft shows. Every greeting card I gave someone had an illustration using those technical pens I still love so much, the illustrations colored-in with colored pencil (damn I wish I had made a copy of every one!).

My quest for more natural alternatives started when I became more sensitive to synthetic perfumes, dyes, and just the thought of getting sick when I get old. My grandma made her own soap on the farm, and my dad is an avid gardener and believes in homeopathic remedies. I'm influenced by their traditional methods, and although I'm not quite an 'urban farmer' quite yet, making natural bath and laundry products with less toxic ingredients helps with my sensitive skin and my kids' eczema.

One day I'm sure one of my kids will continue my legacy, just as I am continuing my parents' way of life. Combining my love for handmade, my entrepreneurial spirit, and where I love to be is what Painted Pear Studio is all about. Welcome, and thank you for stopping by!
