Jennifer Takahashi's Profile

About

Hi!
I have been working on refining this profile, but there's just so much to say. You can decide how much is good, by when you stop reading this!

I am loving living in San Diego, riding bikes, eating yummy food and enjoying the beauty of the ocean. My husband and I live in a little apartment where there is always a project in progress. This is always a tricky thing because there are so many ideas running through my head, and so many lovely materials.

About my creations: I am always thinking of something new to try to make, so each item is not the same as the next. I also love to travel and always bring two or three projects along with me. So many of these items were made in another city, or country. Sometimes it's just in Carpinteria or Goleta (near Santa Barbara) where my grandmother and parents live, or Baja,…

Hi!

Sometimes it's just in Carpinteria or Goleta (near Santa Barbara) where my grandmother and parents live, or Baja, Mexico, where we explore for about a month each summer. The items that are hand sewn, knit or crochet were probably made 'on the road'.

Most of my jewelry and sewing I make right here at home. My sewing machine and traincase full of beads and wire are too heavy to lug around the country! I am currently saving up for a kiln, to continue my newfound love of silver clay! So many new crafts to learn... My latest is shibori, which has a mystery to it, as you never know exactly how the fabrics will come out of the intrigo.

I am very interested in recycling and reuse. I began my ReInspired line when I didn't have enough money to buy new clothes, but wanted to refresh items. That summer I added big vibrant pockets to patterned skirts and was happy. Now I find lightly used items and give them a personal touch so that you won't find an item like yours anywhere. I am very particular about fabric, and quality, so I check linings and make sure that these items are still beautiful even before I begin to embellish them. If something can be reinvented and find a new home where it is loved, then I am happy.

I was able to be a part of Unique Los Angeles and had a blast. I met so many creative people, and saw such fun stuff. My baby ballet slippers were a hit, and that was great feedback.

Thank you to Kirsten for showcasing my baby slippers on her blog recently. You can find it here: www.whatiadore.blogspot.com
It's always flattering to know that others are interested in your creations.

Why the name Palmsprout? Well, when I was in London, I visited the Kew gardens because I love beautiful gardens and they had a dislpay of a palm seed that floats for miles and miles to other islands to find the perfect spot to grow. I loved this concept and feel it encompassed my love of travel and beautiful things. So just like the palm seed that floats miles, these gifts come to you, however far you are, in hopes that they sprout and become favorites in your wardrobe.

I hope you enjoy looking through Palmsprout as much as I enjoy making these things for you!

Thank you for looking at my store! Enjoy your day.

Also, here's my new blog~travel, life, creativity and wonder. Check it out!
