Lyn Brown's Profile
I've been working as a paper artist, then bookbinder, for over 20 years, founding my company, Paper Wasp Designs, in 1990.
I am primarily self taught; literally taking books apart to figure out how they were made. Because of this, I often work outside of the traditional tools of bookbinding, making what I need as I go along. In addition, I supplement my knowledge by talking to to other artists, and bookbinding workshops at the North Bennet Street school in the North End.
My process, and my inspiration, always starts with the paper itself. Each kind of paper has it's own particular qualities: weight, color light permeability, texture and tensile strength. Few things please me more than using a cool new paper in a way that showcases its best qualities. I'm so lucky to work with the object of my obsession!…
