About

Driven by all things curious and clever, Peace and the Poet was conceived by Lytang as a means to reach for a vision far beyond the edge of her desk job.

This vision was to create to her heart’s content, undiscerning of medium, discipline or formal education and to create with the purpose of organizing something that someday might afford her time and resources to put toward relief efforts in the developing world.

Yes, this sounds lofty but you might read the following before deciding….

It was late in the 70’s when they finally arrived at help. “Help” was a temporary settlement of refugees living on the border and “they”, as it turned out, were her parents.

Like so many children born in the refugee camps, her hard working parents ensured her opportunity though education upon arrival in the States. She completed her BS in Physics and a BS in Astronomy at the University of Washington and later got her MS in Transportation Planning and Engineering from the Polytechnic University of NYU. But, what’s a girl with a body full of creative bones and the conviction and voice of an activist to do with an education like that?

That’s a good question……

The designs herein may be a start, marrying her technical minded half with a more expressive and creative twin. From accessory items that mix metals with textiles to structural furniture pieces, each capture one part of her journey. Resourcefulness and functionality are attributes of her designs and if you care to ask, she might tell you what part of her story is being expressed.

Her vision is not so lofty when you understand that it is simply to propagate the generosity that she has received some 30 years earlier.

Remember that change is a curious constant, diversity keeps us clever and there’s beauty in asymmetry.
