Brook Fung's Profile

About

Creator::

My Name is Brook Fung, I am Canadian bred, temporary living in San Francisco. I graduated with my BFA in fibre and textiles at the Alberta Art and Design. I almost majored in ceramics, however the stress from the uncontrollable medium of clay I developed an ulcer. So I dropped that medium. I even tempted the idea of jewellery, had metal smithing not involve fire and laborious finishing! Though those two things had one thing in common in which I could not solve problems with, and that being a sewing machine. Most of my sewing, drafting and pattern making came from my passion from within. I currently and still to this day, have been self teaching myself in the craft for almost 18 years!

Peeko::

Strives to be as socially conscious in the making of clothing and label. As the brand shifts from being eco / up-cycle. Peeko is still socially conscious in its process. All the clothing is either made with eco / natural based fibres, or fabrics and materials sourced out locally. Sustaining local economy and hiring within the community. Most of the fabrics come from small, or independent businesses that buy fabrics as "DEAD STOCK".

Term::

DEAD STOCK:: Meaning fabrics come from mills of unwanted, bolts that did not move or out of season fabrics sold or auction to small suppliers. In some cases larger companies, may make an order for a fabric to be made and then cancel after the fact. Creating excessive Bolts and unwanted fabrics that have never been cut or used.

PERKS OF USING DEAD STOCK FABRICS::
Using what is already existing, leaving less carbon foot print. Rather then adding to the excess of ordering from mills or fabric trade shows for production. Fabrics are limited to quantity produced or in shops, making Peeko pieces limited and one of a kind based on amount of material that is available. Plus buying fabrics and materials sustainably around me provides economic support for smaller business owners and suppliers.

+ Thus in a sense cycles into being socially conscious in your buying while being fashionably conscious.
