The hats you see here are newsboys sewn from wool or cotton with silk linings, and in the spring and summer, sun hats sewn from cotton prints and linen.

The newsboy brims are stiffened with a 100% cotton material called aida cloth (used for needle point) or with buckram ( a basic millinery material made form cotton and sizing) these are used as an alternative to the usual plastic brim stiffener. The sun hats have several layers of cotton interfacing to stiffen the brims.

I look for vintage wools and also purchase new wools from various manufacturers of quality wool. I love wool as it reminds me of the earth and the wonderful natural materials that come from it. I love cotton, silk and linen too, for the same reasons as I love wool. They can all be made into such beautiful…
