Pepe Le Moko is a husband and wife collaboration that goes back almost four decades. Our workshop is a renovated space in a funky old Coast Guard Station on Puget Sound.
The name Pepe Le Moko comes from a l937 French film of the same name. The name has always given us a chuckle and we never forgot it, so we decided to call our Etsy shop "Pepe Le Moko". We thought Pepe needed a monkey with a fez so that's where the avatar came from. That is not to say a monkey could make our jewelry, but who knows, monkeys are pretty smart.
The husband half of our duo, we'll call him 'Pepe', had a two year apprenticeship with a modernist jeweler learning fabrication techniques in San Francisco nearly 40 years ago and then went on to study with two other jewelers learning wax sculpting and casting techniques.
