There was a beginning, and that beginning had a beginning, and that beginning was Peridot. Before Solitary Mountain, before India, Brazil, Bali, China, were the years of wandering the lava flows and climbing each volcano of the historic 1730-36 eruption. Alone, rock hammer in hand, each volcano like finding a whole new world. Beautiful sunrises, sunsets, full moon, as Ikkyu says: Reading the love letters nature sends us.
