Ellen Brenneman's Profile

About

The desire to create has always been a driving force in my life. To me, Vincent Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt were the masters and are still my favorite painters today.

About

The desire to create has always been a driving force in my life. To me, Vincent Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt were the masters and are still my favorite painters today.

There is nothing more inspiring as the world in which I am surrounded. I paint with the same exuberance I felt when witnessing the Redwood Forest for the first time, hiking the mountains of the Smokies or catching a glimpse of a darting indigo bunting. Simply put, I create what I am passionate about which is why you'll see a broad range of subjects from yoga to avian life to tree forms.

Many of my bird and tree paintings are heavily influenced by my Native American ancestry. Within the culture there are many forms considered as guardian spirits which exist as messengers to help people throughout their journey in this world. Spirit trees and birds have special appeal to me. Trees represent strength and are known to endure the test of time; they are survivors. Birds are symbolic of wisdom and freedom. I hope that my work invokes a feeling of interconnectedness between viewer and painting.
