Penny Jo Pausch's Profile

About

Hello. I am Penny Jo Pausch. I am an artist and in my mind have always been one. My mom said when I was four years of age, my bus driver put me on his shoulders and walked me across the risen creek to the other side so I could get home and the whole way across all I could say was "don't let my artwork get wet". At the age of eleven, the art teacher struggled on who should get the art award and he chose to give it to me. In high school, after taking all the art classes offered, the art teacher made an Art III class just for me so I could take it my senior year. I spent that class period and any other spare moment trying to copy every Master's work I could. This helped me develop a lot of skill and understanding in the art world.

About

I grew up way back in the hills of Missouri as a country girl at the end of the road and loved every moment of it. My sister and I did not have many toys and so we played outside (barefooted, I may add) on trees and other things in the woods and learned to use our imagination. I think I had The Little House On The Prairie syndrome!

This has become an asset to me in my work and you will see many things reflected in it that come from my earlier years. Along with my childhood experience with nature are many other influences of my artwork such as my walk with God, my family, my sense of humor, my childlike thinking, my love for color, my curiosity, my pets, words, songs, patterns and oh how I think I could go on and on!

My husband of twenty-five years, and I have raised five children and so you can guess that our home is a busy, fun, exciting, noisy place. Since our children have grown older, I have recently gone back to college as a senior to complete what I started five children ago. It is a slow process with four teenagers still in the home but with God's grace, I will finish with a Bachelor in Fine Arts!

My hobbies are endless but a few of them are painting, experimenting, sewing, manipulating objects, reading, learning, gardening, cooking, and writing poetry. One of my goals is to write a poetry book and illustrate it.

My art contains such a variety of variables that I am not sure I have one style but many. My art seems to evolve and change from piece to piece. If I were to have someone describe my art, I would hope they would be able to say at least three of these things about each piece of work:

*It reflects my Creator and His character.
*It reveals small unnoticed details in nature.
*It is creative.
*It speaks to the viewer.
*It has a voice of positive influence.
*It is thought provoking and challenging.
*It is Childlike, innocent, fun and clean.
*It is flexible with variety.
*It has interesting colors.
*It shows skill when needed.
*It offers new refreshing things to the world.
*It shows patterns that are all around us.
*It is easy to relate to.
*It has an interesting subject.
*I would love to have this art!

I feel God has placed this gift of art within me and I would be wrong to glory in it. I hope that through my artwork people can see a reflection of the God I serve, The Great I Am.
