About

Even though I have been living in Southern California for over 30 years, there will always be a very special place in my heart for the wide open prairie and farm land of South Dakota and northwest Iowa where I was born and raised. It was on the trail to Harney Peak in the Black Hills one day that my interest in geology really came to light. And, after seeing handmade jewelry at street fairs and festivals I decided I would give it a try. My collection of rocks and crystals soon led to collecting strands of semi precious stone beads, Swarovski crystals, and findings.

When I started making jewelry it was just for my own enjoyment, but it wasn't long before I had orders and special requests from others. When I started making jewelry it was just for my own enjoyment, but it wasn't long before I had orders and special requests from others. One day a friend asked if she could host a jewelry party for me, which then led to other parties. At each party I was asked the same thing - "Do you have a website?" So here I am ... Prairie Stones!

In early 2009, I was inspired to try something with the beautiful, naturally ocean tumbled stones I would find on the beaches of Orange County. My first “Simply Beachy” design is the “Stone Stax Pendant”. I collect, drill, and coordinate two or three hand selected beach stones with semi precious stones, Swarovski crystals, chain, and metals, to create a playful pendant that is both casual and dressy. Of course, this means every Stone Stax Pendant is very unique. Additional designs will be forthcoming, so keep an eye on the “Simply Beachy” section of my shop.

I have been told that I “have an eye for combining colors and materials”. In any case, I thoroughly enjoy diving into a new project and finding out what the end result will look like.
