About

Welcome to Preppy Peasant. I'm Maureen and I'm glad you are here! I have enjoyed sewing since I was a little girl, spending hours on a little Singer machine my Mom found at a garage sale. I enjoyed whipping up stuffed funiture and clothes for my Malibu Barbies from Mom's scraps and other found items.

I have moved beyond Barbie clothes but still love to repurpose materials and use up bits of fabric from previous projects to add details like applique and binding.

I love new fabrics and materials too but in an effort to be "green," most of my items have at least one upcycled element included in it's design. Vintage buttons, thrifted wool sweaters, and repurposed linens are my favorite materials to reuse. All items are made by me with love in my Chicago Area home.
