Where are you located? North Carolina

How and when did you get your start? I began researching mineral makeup which I use regularly when my cousin was given a positive diagnosis of breast cancer. She is still with us and doing well, but endured a double mastectomy at a young age. One of her statements that stuck in my mind and made me question many things was that she thought she had always lived a healthy life but now she just wonders what is in the food she eats, the makeup she wears, and all products she uses in her life that she does not know about. That's where I came up with my mission statement "May all women have the choice to enhance their beauty without sacrificing their health!" She got me thinking about what was in my own cabinets at home. I began looking up ingredients on labels of things I had been told were all natural and was horrified! I then set out to find products that really were natural and honestly could not find much of anything. So I tried to figure out how I could make these things for myself, and here I am today :) many years later expanded and still going strong. I'm an aspiring Herbalist, who also tries to see how many extracts and tinctures I've made that I can incorporate into my skin care :) It's very satisfying and liberating to make something that is naturally preserved or requires no preservative due to its natural components and see how wonderful it makes not only the customer look, but feel by supporting their desire to live holistically.

What inspires you? Naturally Nature and all the Beautiful Diverse Women of the World. I'm a people watcher. I can always find the beauty in a person even if they aren't wearing makeup. I also just see the beauty in all of God's Creations. We live in a magnificent world.

What is your design process? It is pretty much all inspiration. I have a few colors named after friends, such as Jashoda. Jashoda is a real live lady from India who is a good friend of mine, very gorgeous and very exotic. Hence the color Jashoda was born. It is a rich carmel when applied. Just like her beautiful skin, and it has undertones of Blue and Turquoise which shimmer across the eye as you bat those lovely lashes. Those Jeweled undertones are also reminders of India and the beautiful vibrant colors you'd expect to see in a Sari. After inspiration strikes, I figure out which ingredients will make that color. Research the ingredients with my suppliers to make sure no nasties are in there before I order (many micas come premixed with things like aluminum and bismuth oxychloride - linked to alzimers, bismuth - linked to cancer, or are dyed with chemicals- Cancer again), some are even pre-sprayed with epoxy polymers (glue) to create different sheens, if you just order ingredients and do not reseach each one. It could have all sorts of things in it you aren't aware of and you are telling your customers unknowingly that your selling pure mineral makeup and YOU AREN'T. I'm very selective due to this knowledge. So if I cant get a mica that is pure and colored by nature. You wont see it in my store and inadvertantly on your vanity - PERIOD!

What’s your favorite thing about what you do? It's a creative outlet for me. I grew up drawing, painting, and most of all being imaginative, something I never outgrew. Then when I turned into a young lady I began to of course enjoy makeup. Overall however I feel like I'm providing a product which women of all economic classes deserve. Something healthy shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg because it has less toxins in it. And it makes me feel good that I am capable of helping assist with a persons quest to be healthy.

Least favorite? Well the only complaint I could possibly have (I feel very blessed to have this thing off the ground) would be that I am still working another job on a 14 hour shift. My main goal is to be able to go full time with this business and continue to ensure women everywhere have access to 100% pure, HIGH QUALITY products, at an affordable price.

What advice would you give to new indie businesses? Research, Research, Research. Figure out what your clientel wants and needs. Offer great customer service. If there is a mistake, this will most defenitely help you keep your customers happy even if it is your fault. And most of all make sure you are beginning a venture in something you enjoy. You will have to work hard long hours to get your business off the ground. If you don't like what you are doing, you aren't going to stick it out to see your business eventually flourish.

Do you have any new and exciting plans for your business or anything that you want people to know about? My main goal is to keep the line expanding and evolving as well as to be able to eventually of course go full time with the business. I have already added some bath and body products as well as scents. Skin care has been successfully incorporated and is still a growing line. I'm now in the process of adding Organic and Fair Trade Certified Spices, Herbs, Teas, Tinctures, Extracts, Essential Oils & Salts to the line so people can successfully live a holistic life from many aspects and not just one. Remember Beauty begins from within.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? Well I've never wanted to trade places with a person. And as cliche as it may sound, I've only wished I could spend time with Jesus Christ walking through the streets he walked, and seeing what he saw in his day. Just learning from his vast knowledge. I'd never want to be him. Just be blessed to spend time with him.

What is the last book you read? Passages in the Bible.

What was the last movie you went to see? Rarely go to the movies, but the last one was National Treasure with Nicholas Cage. It was a great movie. But I prefer to be in a social setting where I can talk with my friends. Maybe cook them a meal - or vise versa! I'm always up for letting them wine and dine me :) as well.

What is your most memorable travel experience? I went on a trip to Mexico recently with my sister. It was wonderful. The people are a dream. Everyone was so nice there, and it is very lovely. Wonderful beaches, towns, food. Just an amazing place. My only regret was I didn't get out on a boat while visiting. I absolutely love the ocean. Snorkeling was a dream in Jamaica also, but don't get me started!

Do you have any pets? I have a Black Lab Mix named Chelsea, and two Kitty Cats, Harley Jane, and Petey. They are wonderful family members :) As well as a little black kitty ( a stray ) I'm slowly getting to trust me. She is very thankful for her 2 squares a day she has started getting. She's just gorgeous :) Of course :)

What do you like to do in your spare time? Well most of my spare time since I work such long hours at the hospital is spent working on the cosmetics line and filling orders. Outside of that, I enjoy going on walks/hikes with my Dog Chelsea, spending time with family and friends of course. That goes back to letting the friends wine and dine me if I'm not cooking for them :)ha ha. I'm big on family. My father is 1 of 8 kids, my mother is 1 of 3 kids. We have all for the most part lived very close to each other all our lives and I had the privledge of growing up with all my cousins, aunts, uncles, Grandparents, and even a set of Great Grandparents I saw weekly. When I have time I enjoy camping trips, going to the beach , and seeing what sort of trouble I can get into without being arrested :)

What are your favorite blogs to read? I like team sugar. They have alot of up to date fashion info and lots of folks have accounts where they show what they are into. Cant do it to much though cause it could lead a girl to being too materialistic. But I like to surf the web and go on Instyle.com etc as well to keep up with fashion. Hey, a girls gotta look good! I also look up alot of clean recipes.

Indie businesses to shop at? Well I'm hooked on anything etsy to be honest, and look for all natural products. I also surf ebay as well.

What is your favorite type of food? Anything digestible :) Well almost! I enjoy a wide variety of food. And try to keep my diet well rounded, although it could use some admited improvement - I keep tripping over cheese cake!

Favorite place to visit or place you’d like to visit? That is a hard decision to make. I love anything and any place that has an ocean. I'm hoping to learn to sail at some point in my life. I'd love to sail around some of the islands visiting different ports of call, and just taking in all the beauty the ocean and various islands have to offer. Coconut Milk Anyone?

Tell us why you choose to use cruelty free materials in your work? Well it is quite simple. II love animals, and they are God's living creatures who also deserve kindness, love, & gratitude. And they don't normally wear makeup, use skincare or any of the other things us Humans are akin to. Nor did they volunteer to be treated in such an inhumane manner. If I need to know if a product is going to produce a breakout, or have any other type of adverse reaction, I'm going to apply it to myself to find this out. Not some poor unsuspecting creature who is subject to whatever we just decide we want to do to them. Nor am I going to purchase ingredients which have been knowingly individually tested on animals as well. All living things should be treated with the same respect you expect for yourself.

Do you sell your items outside of etsy (if so, where)? No I only sell on Etsy at this time. Etsy's customers are so awesome. I havent even had the time to consider going somewhere else. Love You Guys!

Blessings To You All!
