In mid 2009 I quit my job in management with aspirations to work for myself. I have been running an online retail shop for the majority of that time and over a year later I am still my own boss - even in management I had a boss above me. :)

I've been making custom buttons for my friends bands, local businesses, & personal pleasure for a few years. It all stemmed from my wish to make myself cooler & more original buttons at an affordable price - I lost so many at rowdy concerts and I couldn't bring myself to continue buying them from corporate stores at the mall.

The screen printing came later -

About

In mid 2009 I quit my job in management with aspirations to work for myself. I have been running an online retail shop for the majority of that time and over a year later I am still my own boss - even in management I had a boss above me. :)

I've been making custom buttons for my friends bands, local businesses, & personal pleasure for a few years. It all stemmed from my wish to make myself cooler & more original buttons at an affordable price - I lost so many at rowdy concerts and I couldn't bring myself to continue buying them from corporate stores at the mall.

The screen printing came later -

Since I was 14 I have been an avid collector and user of canvas patches - in fact sewing patches on hoodies, bags, pants, and even my leather jacket was how I learned to sew by hand.

My first exposure to screen printing was at a pretty young age visiting the Sun Mountain Sports Factory - Where my Dad was at the manager of the screen printing dept. at the time. They made golf bags and more for all the major companies and filled custom orders too - I Was fascinated at what you could do with screen printing and scrounged up the test prints to take home whenever I could. Everything there was done on million dollar machines so I was not exposed to pulling prints by hand (which is how I print) until much later in life.

I have always dabbled in graphic & web design but really wanted a good way to put my images on something besides a computer screen.

I was about also 14 when I first saw a punk rocker set up a table in a dingy punk club before the concert started and sell patches & shirts he had screen printed to support Food Not Bombs (An organization run by well intentioned punks with branches across the US that provides vegan meals to the homeless)

Thats when I knew I wanted to screen print for myself one day and it took almost 10 years of reading up on multiple DIY printing methods with spotty results before I was pushed forward by my girlfriend Amber who had also expressed an interest in screen printing. We heard about a 6 week class to learn how to do it like the pros and jumped on it.

As of now I rent time in a full professional studio until I can afford equipment I deem good enough to use for products I sell.

My girlfriend has had multiple successful Etsy shops over the last 3-4 years and I decided to try my hand at it and have a place outside of normal retail to highlight the items I design and produce myself.

Sometimes we collaborate on screen print designs but never produce the same types of products with them - Her real niche is her self created embroidery designs on hankies & housewares and her Embroidered Insta-Face Bandanas. Although she's always coming up with creative new ideas and products!

Check her shop out its 100% original & 200% Awesome - http://CyanideStitches.etsy.com
