Robert Allen's Profile

About

I've been cutting stones and making jewelry for over 25 years. In that time I've amassed literally thousands of pounds of rough and slabbed material that I use to create my cabochons. I only cut the finest material in an attempt to bring you the best of the best. If there's some rare material you're looking for, just ask and I'll see what I can do for you.

I learned cabbing from a very traditional gentleman who taught at a state college in upstate New York. He taught me the basics and believed in cutting standard, calibrated shapes. I worked within these confines for several years in perfecting my technique. My eyes were opened years ago by several people, including my wife Nicca, who cut stones in fantastic shapes with beautiful arcs and curves. Since then I view this as a creative process to work with the stone and patterns to produce a work of art. If I don't think a cabochon…

If I don't think a cabochon is exceptional, it doesn't go in my store.

I'm always amazed at the beauty and variety of stone that Mother Earth gives us. I cut my stones according to the way they evolve as I'm cutting. The shape and size of each cabochon is decided as the cutting process proceeds. I always polish the front and back of each cabochon and I always cut a bevel on the back edges to minimize chipping and make the setting process as easy as possible. I use an eight step process to polish my stones to a high gloss finish.

For 7 years I owned my own "New Age" store that sold my jewelry, cabs, wands I cut from stone, minerals and crystals of all types and other various odds and ends.

I'm also a Traditional Usui Reiki Master since 1992 and a Karuna Reiki Master since 1996.
