About

Born and raised in Maine, I am a seventh generation 'Mainer'. I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maine with a double degree in Studio Art and Art History in the year 2002.

My memories are filled with images of playing in my grandparents' attic. I spent many days amongst finished and unfinished canvases of my grandfathers, Edward Bailey, who studied art at the Portland School of Art. Seeing the joy on his face as he spoke of his days painting in art school planted a seed in my heart early on to carry on where he left off. Now I feel each artwork I create embodies a feeling of rebirth in content and emotion.

I fixate on a moment in time. Small and often overlooked aspects of our daily lives. Beauty in the unseen. Drastic control of light sets a mood in the viewer. I often concentrate on homes as they represent an extension of the family....in the function of protection and the preservation of childhood memories.

I've shown in over 30 International and National Juried Exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland and Italy. My artwork has been published in 'Words & Images', a book of artwork and poetry published in Portland, Maine and 'The Buzz', Prince Edward Island's Arts and Entertainment magazine as well as numerous juried exhibition catalogues over the last decade.

In March 2007, artist Shirley Greer and myself created a duel exhibition at the Galleria Sottoportego in conjunction with the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy. The exhibit housed in the old city of Venice contained prints and images of my family home, along with sound art to accompany each painting as a track to be played while visually exploring the artwork. As a Visiting Artist, I also co-taught, during the weeks at the school, a course on three different mono printing techniques.

"Old homes have a way of softly whispering to those who enter.
If you listen, you'll hear about the lives that were lived within her walls."
