The Prints:
Fine art relief or intaglio prints are original works of art, each unique, within its limited edition printing. Red Tail Studios relief prints are made using wood blocks of various species (to make woodcut prints) or linoleum plates (to make linocuts). I use traditional Japanese carving tools to carve my original designs and print using traditional water-based pigments or oil-based archival inks onto archival quality paper for your lasting enjoyment. Images may be transferred by hand using a hand-held baren, but more often they are run through my beloved, husband-made, 30-inch etching press.

My intaglio prints are generally on copper using a variety of etching methods, printed with archival quality Charbonnel etching inks and always transferred using my etching press.

Encaustics:
This extremely versatile, 2000+ year old medium involves heating beeswax with damar resin, then adding pigments to achieve color, etc. My encaustic pieces combine charcoal drawings and many of the elements of my printmaking to make unique, yet simple compositions.

Monique / Red Tail Studios:

When I'm not making art, I spend time gathering inspiration in the great wilderness outside my back door: Yosemite National Park, Sierra National Forest and the beautiful San Joaquin Valley. Hiking, photography, bird watching, sketching, etc. When I am not doing that, I am likely to be found applying the finishing touches to our hand-built mountain home. We still have much to do, but nature and art calls sooooo loudly....

Tim / Red Tail Studios:
And he may not be the artist, but Tim (that amazing husband I was talking about) is the man behind the GET IT DONE around here. He hand-built our 30" etching press, just finished building (Yes, just him & one other guy!) our 'green' Sierra Studio and runs the technical stuff around the shop. Of course, all that happens when he's not crafting gorgeous, artisan, fine art frames (Sadly, pick-up only, not currently offered on Etsy.).
