Romy B. Shafkind was born and raised in Los Angeles, but started coming to Utah when she was 15 when her father moved to Park City. She moved to Salt Lake City in her early 20's with the idea that she would work in the family business (landscaping) and spend the winters skiing. After several years of working and never going skiing she went back to school and stayed until completing a Masters in Social Work. She now works with troubled youth as a therapist. Salt Lake City appears to be a centering force in her life, she says "it's the magic of the Dead Sea bed that we live in here".
The art comes as her way to center from busy workdays; and it's just plain fun. Both her mother and sister are producing artists (in Los Angeles and Seattle).
