Why Rough Magic? Shakespeare! At the end of "The Tempest," the marooned magician Prospero lays aside his "rough magic." As my husband Joe is descended from a voyager on the very ship that inspired the play, we believe a bit of Prospero's art has come ashore on the beach outside our studio window.

Joe and I spend many happy hours exploring that beach, as well as our lush woodlands, and many finds from our own dooryard have made their way into Rough Magic creations. Shells, pine cones, stones, birch bark, tufts of moss, Maine hardwoods - all have a place in our work and in our hearts. And we also have a soft spot for colorful gemstones and the enchanting sparkle of beautifully cut crystals.

But as you'll see when looking through RoughMagicCreations.etsy.com, our favorite medium is copper. We use new industrial sheet copper and copper wire, repurposed and upcycled for our designs. This truly magical metal has become more and more integral to our designs and now feature in the hand formed chains that you'll find in so many of our necklaces and bracelets. We our also like to make my own jewelry findings - earwires, clasps, connectors and jump rings, and beaded and wrapped links.

As a member of Maine Made: America's Best, we are pleased that our work is on display in the Maine State Office Building in Augusta.
