About

I named Scarlett's Garden after my 14-year old dog, Scarlett. This is my way of thanking Scarlett for her years of loving devotion. Scarlett passed away July 10, 2009 quickly and quietly. She will be sorely missed.

In 1987 I graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Fine Art. I was beyond happy!! However, I kept thinking, what now? No matter how hard I tried I could not find work. Not knowing exactly what I wanted to do was making the process difficult. After 8 years I realized that I needed to make my own art. That's when I started working with jewelry. At first I started with earrings, moved to bracelets and eventually worked with necklaces. I've also made brooches with crystals and beaded watch bands.

This was during the time that I owned a rubber stamp store. After I relocated my shop and came into contact with the town quilt shop, I fell in love with fabric. Not only did they sell wonderful fabric but buttons and antiques. WOW! I soon found out hand sewing was a joy for me. I eventually combined the beads, buttons, and fabric! I was in heaven...I had found my niche. I have made quilts, wall hangings, and purses with beads and buttons out of 100% cotton, flannel, and wool felt.

When I read about Etsy.com in a magazine I was elated!! At first I tried to sell jewelry but found I was outdated. Selling vintage buttons grabbed my attention...I truly believe you can never have too many buttons. Unfortunately, I had a difficult time with my photography. With the help of a new etsy friend, LillianOlive, the photography headache slowly eased.

Due to forces beyond my control, I had to reduce the amount of my belongings. I started with my beads and findings and was amazed by the outcome. It become apparent that I could collect beads, buttons, and fabric and sell them as well.

It is truly difficult in life to find what we are capable of, while being happy and helping others. Perhaps I have found my second niche...

I have grown since I've started with Etsy.com as a person and shop owner because of WONDERFUL people like LillianOlive. She will always be an inspiration for me...Thank You Lillian!!

And Thank You to all of the great people who visit Scarlett's Garden!
