It's all about bold brushstrokes and colour, for me. Looking at a painting, seeing a mass of bold brushstrokes that up close hold no discernible form. But step back and you can see a different painting, hopefully something to make you gasp ... that's what I aspire to, one day.
I am a Scottish artist who tries - often unsuccessfully! - to create bold and colorful art. In particular I love portraits, of people and pets. I started painting portraits as a career rather than a hobby because of my friend Stevie, who in the mid 90's asked me to paint his two labrador retrievers as a present for his stepmother. He insisted I could do it, and told me I could make a career from art.
10 years later I finally broke free from the nine-to-five and actually did it for real. And again, Stevie was the catalyst. Seriously ill in hospital in 2004 he asked me to work on…
