Inspiration:

What has inspired me as an artist is the ability to turn an ordinary object into something beautiful and interesting. To bring ones imagined world to life.

I have been inspired by many of the artists of the early 1900’s, specifically Alphonse Mucha and Maxfield Parish; they showcased natural elements in extraordinary ways, while incorporating them into contemporary themes. Art Nouveau, nature and gothic themes are all prevalent in my work

I was an only child of a single parent, so art was always part of my daily experience as a child. It kept me company and gave me my own little world to get lost in.

My mother has inspired many of my art choices. She exposed me to art nouveau as a child and taught me many mediums over the years. She has also always encouraged art, as she is an artist herself. I have also been inspired & reminded to do art by all the other talented artists I know and encounter through my life.

Not having art in my life is always a sign I am not taking good enough care of my spirit. I guess in this way I need art; therefore I must be an artist.

Sincerely,
Seasons Koll

Regarding my paintings:

I have done photography for a long time but was never inspired to do any more than show it off or use it for my stores blog etc… until I found encaustic wax and learned ways to incorporate my photography with it. My greatest struggle as an artist has never been about design or concept, mostly about execution. I could never get what I saw in my head onto paper. With encaustic wax I can create a world for my photographs to live that is like a hyper reality. The sky moves with the brightest blues and stunning white clouds over a rich swirling textured earth, over this I can lay in a photo capturing a massive tree, a flock of birds, bridges, etc… As much as I love photography it is hard to capture the true vast wonder of nature but in this heightened reality I can create something that brings nature to life in front of you. My favorite thing after a trip is to try to recreate the stunning sights with the photos I took into an encaustic art piece. I have been expanding my painting techniques with encaustic wax to be able to create landscape realism even less attached to reality. I look forward to exploring even more techniques in the future to bring these dreamy little worlds I’m creating even further. I am grateful to share my imagination with all of you.
