Members and Friends of my Church, St James United Church of Christ, in South Eastern Michigan have re-purposed wool sweaters into mittens for this store. Over 30 members and friends from ages 6 to 84 have participated in the making of the mittens. Some buy sweaters or donate fleece, others cut them out or sew them and some enjoy embellishing the mittens with appliqué and buttons. We also teach others how to make mittens.
We also make rag rugs! Over the years our members have re-purposed dresses, skirts, pants and jeans, sewn the strips together and prepared them for weaving into rugs.
We hope you enjoy mittens or rugs created by many hands. 100% of the cost of the mittens is donated to our church. The proceeds so far have helped fund a remodeling of our 60 year old church kitchen, supported youth in a nearby after-school program as well as update our beloved Camp Talahi located in…
