Hello! My name is Laura. I live in a tiny sub-city of Fort Worth.
I've been making and wearing handflowers and chainmaille jewelry for about 10 years, and I've learned how to make them fairly sturdy and how much they can last through. I started out just making a couple handflowers that I wanted to wear, and when people saw them they said I should make more and start selling them. My friend Amy told me about Etsy and did some of my earlier photography for me. Here's her store: http://www.zazzle.com/sweetnessphotography

I'm a member of Chainmaillers Guild (Chainmaillers Team), Christian Artists Street Team (CASTteam), Handmade for Life (HFLteam) Texas Etsy Crafters (TeamEtsyTX), and DFW Handmade.

"ShadowCutter" is a name given by my sister, inspired by my personal "prism in the dark" and "pierce the darkness" theme, which is inspired by a sticker I found that says "the dark is afraid of me". see these here: (1) http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i220/ShadowCutter_photos/thedark.jpg

"Let us then cast of the works of darkness and put on the armor of light."

I get most of my materials at Hobby Lobby and JoAnn stores, and some online. Almost every time I go to a craft store it's really hard for me to leave because the chains and toggle clasps and charms are so pretty, I have to stare at all of them until I decide which ones I can afford to buy. Occasionally a friend will give me some extra chains or clasps they have laying around, in which case if I use them and they may not be brand-new I'll call them "upcycled" in the listing, but I won't use something that's obviously old and worn out.

My brother is a licensed bench jeweler, and sometimes I might be able to get him to do some soldering or adjusting for me. Also he helps me identify different metals and stones if I happen to have some that aren't labeled.

Here is a blog post about "double-duty jewelry", featuring one of my handflowers (which has since sold): http://themidwasteland.com/style-pile/inspiration-givenchy-fall-2009-couture#comment-22875
