Sharona Nissan's Profile

About

I am a self taught, dog loving, New York based, jewelry designer (belt buckles and handbags too), currently running this Etsy shop. In my work I am best known for, my distinctive skill of hand wiring sterling silver wire with semi precious stones & pearls (sometimes for hours other times for days).

My love affair with unique hand made things began early. As a teenager I loved shopping the small shops and flea markets in Greenwich Village in NYC. I can still remember my excitement when I would buy just that one beautiful artisan piece of handmade anything that I knew I couldn't find anywhere else. It is this precise enthusiasm and experience I strive to bring you in my shop.

My work has sold in specialty stores including Saks Fifth Avenue, throughout the United States, and abroad. My work also has been featured in numerous publications such as…

A Tribute to Mom … She who gave me life

Shulamit Nissan March 15, 1950 - October 6, 2010

With the tragic loss of my mom in 2010, I thought it fitting to pay a tribute to the very women who gave me life. Along with being my best friend, my mentor, my support, my encouragement, my loving mom, she was also an amazing cook, knitted stunning sweaters and was the most effortlessly beautiful and stylish women I knew. Her loss has been the hardest event in my life and has really given me a new way to look at myself.

Whether learned or genetic, any creative thread that runs through my body I have inherited from mom. She not only taught me right from wrong, she taught me the difference between chic and cheap. It was Mom who pointed out that, all that glitters is not necessarily gold but may just be a bad case of a tacky sequence dress.

She was quite low maintenance in her appearance yet always managed to look like a shining star. As a child, I recall those rare occasions that she wore makeup and high heels, I would watch her getting ready mesmerized. She was the kind of women that lit up a room with her permanent smile. In my teenage years, mom stood back and allowed me to explore choices (pink hair) and mistakes (pink lips, blue liner), which gave me the confidence to be an individual and follow my dreams. As an adult, I finally understood that all of her beauty and grace would always stand the test of time, simply because it radiated from inside of her. I’ve also come to realize that it was her unique and gentle touch in mothering that made me the person and artist I am today.

Mom I awe it all to you. You are so missed but you will always live in my heart.
