About

When an insidious disease in my spine was made it impossible to go back to my high-tech career, I had to find a way to channel my energy and creativity. In 2009 my cousin Leslie inspired me to teach myself to crochet. I went from scarves and washcloths to bags, then sweaters and finally to intricate doilies from vintage patterns. At first I shared my craft with my friends. They encouraged me to bring it to you through Etsy. I think they were just tired of getting all those scarves!

I also took up sewing again after 25 years. The quilted brocade tote bag I made elicited so many compliments and sighs that I decided to share those, too.

My Deluxe City Totes are all approximately 17" x 13"…

My Deluxe City Totes are all approximately 17" x 13" x3". They are completely padded, even the handles, and quilted as the spirit of the fabric and the bag moves me. No two are alike, so your ShellysBag will always be one of a kind. Each bag is made up of over 30 pieces, assembled with care and sewn both by hand and machine.

The crocheted Market Bags are perfect for trips to the grocery, the farmer's market, or the hardware store. They come in either acrylic yarn for east of care and durability, or 100% cotton for the softer texture and color. I have access to dozens of fun colors and have a great time matching them up to give you a grocery bag that will pop with character and garner the envy of grocery clerks and fellow shoppers everywhere. The bags are about 25 inches tall, including the integrated handle that is wide enough to be comfortable on shoulder even with a very heavy load. They are 34" - 36" around and stretch to accommodate a whole bag of groceries and more. I especially like how they can hold a long baguette and a bouquet safely. I can even make custom sizes or colors for you if you want.

I also use the cotton and acrylic yarns for scarves. Some in all cotton for cool days in a warm climate or a fashion statement, some in warm acrylic or wool blends for blustery days. They come with or without fringe and sometimes with fine cotton thread fringe that looks like it came from the 1920's. If you don't see what you're looking for, just ask!

Making doilies from fine cotton or rayon thread is now one of the joys in my life. I love finding vintage pattern books and recreating designs from the early 1900's as well as comtemporary patterns and my own designs. Round or square, tiny or huge, I love them all. I use the same threads for bookmarks in crocheted or embroidered lace.

I like to travel and it is fun find unique fabrics and yarns from different places that I can pull together in new creations. I take custom orders for any of my products, whether for a themed tote (like music) or colors (like a red-and-purple bag or a yellow lacy tablecloth).
