I have lived most of my life in Florida, so nature and the ocean have a strong influence on my work. I like to add abstract designs to those ideas to put my own spin on things. See what I am up to by visiting my blog at www.ShifflettStudios.blogspot.com

In while in college getting my business degree, I overloaded with art classes as stress relief. I ended up just short of an art minor in addition to my double major in Marketing and Management. After graduation, I continued taking another year of graphic design and computer graphics classes at a local college. In while in college getting my business degree, I overloaded with art classes as stress relief. I ended up just short of an art minor in addition to my double major in Marketing and Management. After graduation, I continued taking another year of graphic design and computer graphics classes at a local college. Most recently, I attended Crealde School of Art and studied ceramics and wheel throwing for 3 years. I have always had a love for art and have tried many different medias, but my favorites are clay and glass. I’ve been working in clay since 2002 and ventured into glass and jewelry making in 2004. All of my creations are made in my home studio.

*Glass Process:
--------------------------------------------------
My fused glass pieces are designed from multiple layers of glass. Some pieces have various things added between or on top of the glass to give them unique qualities. Besides glass designed for fusing, I also use recycled glass that would normally end up in landfills. Depending on the type of glass and the desired finished effects, I will vary the speeds of heating and cooling the glass and the peak temperatures somewhere between 1350 and 1750 degrees. All of my pieces are properly annealed to ensure that there will be no unexpected cracking in the future. Like my ceramic pieces, when the kiln does it’s magic, sometimes I get some unexpected beautiful accidents, as I like to call them. If you see a piece you love, buy it, since I probably will not be able to recreate an exact replica of it ever again.

Glass can be very difficult to photograph. Frequently the depth of color and sparkle seem to be lost in the translation. Hopefully, you will be pleasantly surprised when you see your purchases in person. I will do my best to capture the magic in the pictures.
