About

Shiny Sparkly Things is mostly about jewelry that has a connection to the past. I collect vintage images from the turn of the century and use them to make resin pendants. I also collect vintage Kuchi jewelry from Pakistan and Afganistan - I remake these into sparklier and shinier versions of themselves. I am also an avid collector of vintage glass - gems and beads - they make me crazy!!! I finally realized what my pieces have in common is their connection with the past and how thinking about the women in my picture collection lived or wondering about the women who have owned the Kuchi pieces throughout the years... truly absorbs me. I wonder what their days were like. I wonder how they felt when they dressed up. I love to feel the worn areas on my pieces, that makes their lives so much more real for me.

I started making and selling jewelry way back in the 5th grade, when Santa brought me a rock tumbler for Christmas! Good Santa! Later, I managed for Zales Jewelers straight out of high school for a 10 year stint before heading back to college and becoming a biochemist. The jewelry bug kept calling, so I finally got up the hutspah and started my business, Shiny Sparkly Things, about 6 years ago! Now, I go to a lot of dance and art weekend events to vend my wares - from bellydancing to ballroom dancing to FaerieCon and spread my sparkly good cheer. ;~D

When I'm not traveling, I LOVE to make resin jewelry featuring my muses or I'm trying to figure out how to crystallize everything in sight with Swarovski crystals! My newest obsession is combining vintage Kuchi jewelry - rustic jewelry from Afghanistan and Pakistan - with contemporary elements and colors. I'm loving how those are turning out and I hope you love them, too! ;~D
